In 1944, construction began on an honor roll monument for those young men and women from the camp, both incarcerees and staff, who were serving in WWII. Due to difficult conditions and a lack of upkeep, the honor roll was reconstructed in 2003. Since 1977, a number of other monuments and memorials have been erected around the central structure.
